Press Release Author = Shushmul Maheshwari

Industry = Telecommunications

Press Release Summary = DD took a lead in successfully completing its trials of the
Mobile TV technology. Growing need of interactive accessibility in the country will
make mobile TV a success story.

Press Release Body = Mobile TV is certain to gain popularity but compatibility
issues need to be addresses by using a single chip on handheld devices.

Still under trial phase in several countries before the launch on commercial scale,
Doordarshan, the State Broadcaster, has lead the technology’s testing in India
and carried out the trials successfully, informed officials from Prasar Bharti.
Actually, the DD TV on mobile was intended to be launched from January 26, 2007 but
the plan was shelved, informed officials.

DD officials report that although the trial phase was completed successfully and DD
channels made an appearance on mobile phones, some technical limits were still there
yet to be checked.

Considering the extent of mobile penetration and its rate of growth in India, mobile
TV is surely going to make its place. It has been accepted now that there is a
striking change in the customer behavioral patterns with consumers desiring for
‘anytime anywhere interactive access facility’ that can be accomplished
only by the effective confluence of mobile, broadcasting, and wireless technologies.
The decision of selecting the platform and primetime will solely made by the
consumer.

As customers increasingly rely on their mobile phones for the creation of video
content, new broadcast platforms will come up to distribute this video content to
other mobile users.

However, the officials from Broadcast Engineering Society say that mobile TV is just
an option from a range of many other entertainment options available to the
consumers.

According to the RNCOS report “Indian Telecom Sector Analysis
(2006-2007)”, broadband wireless market is geared up to move rapidly in India.
More than 70% households in India are not connected to wired lines and the figure of

telecommunication market, internet access market, industry performance by products
and vendors, state-wise and circle-wise segmentation of Indian telecom sector, and
